I'm an amateur musician and use a TC Helicon Voice Live 3 for performances. Also, you can see what trans women are doing and basically do the opposite, reverse engineer it. They tend to be pretty welcoming as long as you're respectful.

There's a lot to it, I obviously can't cover it all, but you should check out r/transvoice, a lot of it is for trans women but not all of it is. Not too much, but there is usually a difference. Women tend to have a sharper S sound, so flatten that out too. This is a generalization, for example the "gay voice" is still read as male most of the time but it does emphasize with pitch. Women typically emphasize things with pitch, while men emphasize more with volume. There's a lot more to it than pitch, there are women with extremely deep voices who don't get read as male, and there are men with very high voices who are, so don't get hung up on that. The best you can do is tone and cadence, go as low as you can without it sounding forced, but just making your speech more monotone is going to help a lot. As a cis woman you haven't had that same increase in range so you're a bit more limited in what you can do. So if a cis man or trans woman wants to feminize their voice they have to basically restrict their range, exposure to testosterone increases range but doesn't really cut off the high end. Inflection is the different way that words are stressed, which is commonly different between men and women, but the difference is really hard for me to hear, so when doing NPC voices, I really struggle switching between more masculine and more feminine voices. Whereas "masculine" voices are more likely to be more monotone. For intonation, in general more "feminine" voices tend to speak with greater range of tone sentences flow up and down, and some women have a noticable upward tone at the end of sentence (but this isn't univeral). Intonation amd inflection are way harder imo. Some people that can switch resonances will refer to their "masculine" voice as their chest voice and their "feminine" voice as their head voice. Women tend to form syllables with their tongue further forward, their vocal cords up and more tightened. A counter example, minion voice is VERY high in pitch, but can still be read as male.įor resonance, men usually speak from their chest with their vocal chords down and open, and they form syllables with their tongues less to the front of their mouth, allowing much more room for air to vibrate. There are plenty of women who speak with deep pitch but who none-the-less sound feminine because they have "feminine" intonation, inflection, and resonance. That's because female voices have way less to do with pitch and more to do with intonation, inflection, and resonance voice changers only affect pitch. Combat areas for every conceivable encounter.
